Get Your Direction: From New York and points north: Take the New Jersey Turnpike south to its end, the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Merge onto Interstate 95 south in Delaware, then proceed as described below. From Philadelphia:Take Interstate 95 south to exit 4A in Delaware - Christiana Mall, Delaware Route 1. Continue south on Delaware Route 1 past Wilmington, Dover, and Rehoboth Beach, all the way to Fenwick Island. The motel will be on your right, at the corner of South Carolina Avenue, just before the Maryland state line. Total distance from downtown Philadelphia: About 141 miles. From downtown Manhattan: About 228 miles. From Washington, Baltimore, Annapolis, and points west: Take U.S. Route 50 East. From Washington, that's Exit 19 from I-495, the Capital Beltway. From Baltimore. take the Baltimore Beltway, Interstate 695, to Interstate 97 south, and follow that to its end at U.S. Route 50 East. Cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and continue east, bearing right to stay on U.S. Route 50. (and NOT onto U.S. Route 301 north!). Take left exit for Route 404 East toward the Delaware beaches. Stay alert at Bridgeville, Delaware - Route 404 merges with U.S. Route 13 South briefly, then veers off to the left. It's easy to get lost! Follow route 404 east past Georgetown, Delaware until you reach Delaware Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach. Turn right (south) and follow Delaware Route 1 to Fenwick Island. The motel will be on your right, at the corner of South Carolina Avenue, just before the Maryland state line. Total distance from downtown Washington: About 138 miles. From downtown Baltimore: About 136 miles. From downtown Annapolis: About 109 miles. Alternatively, it is possible to continue on U.S. Route 50 east for about 95 miles beyond the Bay Bridge, past Salisbury, until you reach the exit for Route 90 East to Ocean City, Maryland. Follow this about 12 miles, then turn left at Maryland Route 528 North (Coastal Highway) in Ocean City. Proceed north, past 142nd Street. The motel will be on your left, at the corner of South Carolina Avenue, just after the Delaware state line. This will add about 18 miles to your trip. From Norfolk and points south: Follow U.S. Route 13 North to U.S. Route 50 East near Salisbury, Maryland. Go east on U.S. Route 50 until you reach the exit for Route 90 East to Ocean City, Maryland. Follow this to its end at Maryland Route 528 (Coastal Highway) in Ocean City, then turn left (north). Proceed north, past 142nd Street. The motel will be on your left, at the corner of South Carolina Avenue, just after the Delaware state line. Total distance from downtown Norfolk: About 150 miles.

Transpeninsular Line Monument Stone: Sitting just outside the fence surrounding the Fenwick Island Lighthouse is the first stone set in place by Commissioners of Maryland and Pennsylvania to mark the Transpeninsular Line of 1751. As such, it is the oldest standing, man-made object on the coast between Indian River Inlet, Delaware and Ocean City Inlet in Maryland and marks Delaware's southern boundary with the State of Maryland. Known as a crown stone, the monument bears the coat-of-arms of the Calvert family, the Lords Baltimore of Maryland on its south side and those of the Penn family, proprietors of Pennsylvania and The Three Lower Counties Upon Delaware on its north side.
