Located in the center of Tropea, a walled city whose origins are the basis of legend, this ancient convent had a long and fascinating history. It seems that during the roman era it was an hospital for the soldiers coming back from the Crociate. Than, for a long time the convento has been the house of Suore della Clarissa and during the second world war it has been a barracks. The lower part was built in the 13th Century, while the upper part was finished in the 17th Century. In the end of the 1980s it has been restored and renovated, while keeping its beauty and original charme, and it has been converted into seven separate homes. Two of these (belonging to the 13th Century part) have been restored with its rustic simplicity from two famous Italian architects: Nanda Vigo from Milan who took care of the structural arrangements and Luigi Giffone from Rome who overviewed the interior designs. By staying in this convent you have the possibility to live the experience of a lifetime in a fantastic atmosphere and surroundings that will remain for long in the memories of the trip. Il Convento is an opportunity to experience the simple beauty of an earlier time with some modern comfort. For more info please send an email to or dial +39 3475090576 You can also Skype us!

Tropea has very ancient origins, indeed, its area has conspicuous traces of prehistoric settlement and evidence of Greek and Roman presence. Nowadays Tropea is an exclusive seaside resort that also boasts a modern tourist and fishing harbour. The town also has one of the prettiest and best-preserved historic centres in the region. The town, considered the real capital of the Capo Vaticano area, offers the eleventh-century Norman cathedral, the churches of St. Francis of Assisi and Santa Maria della Neve, as well as the highly fascinating church of Santa Maria dellŽIsola, that stands at the foot of the town, on a small finger of land projecting into the sea. From the viewpoint of the terrace where the oldest part of the town lies, the clear and extraordinarily blue sea breaking on splendid cliffs trimmed with white beaches and indented with coves, can be admired: all around are fertile undulating hills covered with extensive citrus fruit and olive plantations and vineyards. Tropea, in fact, is also an active farming centre, famous for the excellent quality of its food produce, among which are outstanding the giant lettuce and red onion, exported throughout the world. Finally, the townŽs craft production and cookery are also noteworthy, the latter is, above all, distinguished for its seafood tradition.
