The news page contains news informing guests about activities, services or other general information about the Ocean Reef Yacht Club. Has yet again been dedicated to improvement, both inside and out. We were not able to reach our absolute goals in terms of renovations at the resort but we made a fighting effort to get as much done as we possibly were able to. LOOKING BACK AT 2007 The year 2007 has welcomed a few changes to the front desk as many guests may already have had the pleasure to see. We welcomed to the Ocean Reef family Chadae Knowles, Rowonda Corneille as well as Alexandrea Richardson to the front desk! They are all a great addition to the already dynamic personalities working in the office. Unfortunately, Deandrea White is no longer working with us as she had decided to explore different employment venues elsewhere and Federico Sands has now joined the Marketing team. Looking back at our renovation goals for the year, we completed the vast majority of what we had planned despite an often high occupancy not enabling us to enter rooms a few weeks at a time. Most of our outside work was completed early in the year when occupancy was relatively high; such as retiling the main pool, repainting the main building and adding two large murals on either side of the building, as well as finishing the roof over Groupers Grill. Our accomplishments inside the units include completing seven of the fourteen 1-bdr. Suite renovations, finishing all but two townhouse renovations, completing all kitchens in the townhouses and placing new furniture in designated units. We were able to acquire some games for the resort such as an air hockey table, foosball table and pool table. We had acquired some kayaks, a Paddle boat as well as renovated the resort boat by adding a bimini top, building in the gas tank, adding a VHF radio and other minor touchups to the existing Freeport Skiff. For those guests having had the pleasure of actually meeting the artist, Garret, who designed and painted the murals on the main building might be interested in knowing that his mural at Ocean Reef Resort caught the eye of another very prominent hotel in the Bahamas, namely Atlantis in Nassau. They were so impressed with his work at Ocean Reef, that they asked him to design and paint more than 25 different murals for the newly built expansion at Atlantis resort. No more cold winter days for him in upstate New York this year! He is hoping to have a few days off from Atlantis to come and visit us here, since he loved the island and the tranquility of the resort so much! Date added : 2006-08-30. The year 2007 rolled in as one filled with challenges. We as a vacation club were transitioning into the new RCI Points Program which had its share of frustrations coupled with the fact that travel and airlift to the island was down. Beginning November 1st 2007 the Ocean Reef Vacation Club is going to roll out a series of new programs that we know our members are going to find exciting. We want to insure that our members know that we always keep their fun and relaxation at the forefront of our thinking and that we will always find new ways of making your vacation club more exciting for you. To Our New members we would like to say “Welcome Aboard!” we know that the beginning of the ride may be a bit bumpy while you try to figure out the best way to utilize your new membership, but we guarantee that once you start using it and begin realizing the simplicity of the program and the support we offer, you will wonder how come you didn’t join sooner? Date added : 2006-11-28. Although we were not able to complete all of our goals for 2007 we have some new and necessary goals to make for 2008. Firstly, we would like to finish off our renovation of the remaining One-Bedroom Suites as well as the two remaining townhouses. We plan on starting our much needed renovations for our two bedroom Suites, which include a new kitchen with Corian counter top and new appliances as well as a flat screen TV in the living room and plush mattresses. In addition we are looking to change a few 2-bdr. Suites to have two twin size beds in the guest bedroom instead of a king size bed. We will most likely change rooms 107 108 to accommodate these changes mentioned. The kitchens in both penthouse units will also be updated with new cabinets, countertops and appliances. Both units 308 110 will be slightly modified to accommodate the needs of persons in a wheelchair by implementing minor changes in these units such as widening the door to the guest bathroom, adding double hinges for interior doors, installing large grab bars in the shower and removing the under sink cabinet. In addition we have padded removable toilet seats with handle bars and extra long shower seats. Exterior renovations will include minor landscaping improvements as well as replacing the pool lounge chairs. We will be working on increasing the activities in the resort, especially in the restaurant. Date added : 2006-11-28. Although we have lost our airline carrier TWA, we have gained another carrier, namely Spirit Airways which offer a great low cost connection from Ft. Lauderdale to Freeport. Every day of the week and especially price valuable on Saturdays. They will begin flying daily to Freeport starting on December 13th, 2007. Another valuable flight deal will be introduced by Skybus Airlines with direct connections to Freeport from Greensboro, N.C. as well as Columbus, OH. They are looking to start in March 2008 and will have daily flights to Freeport, Grand Bahama. Although the prices are not set yet, they are looking to introduce one-way flights at around $85 excl. taxes. Date added : 2006-11-28. COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT.
