The abbey was originally built in 1868 and is now the home to the Irish Benedictine Nuns. Facilities at Kylemore include a visitor's centre, restaurant, an exhibition house in the main reception rooms, Gothic church, gardens, lake and mountain walks, pottery, craft and souvenir shop. The Irish speaking Aran Islands are renowned for their unique way of life where age old traditions co-exist comfortably with modern living. A river walk all the way into town is being upgraded and we now have a fine fishing bridge just over the road. The walk will extend all the way into the town of Clifden. This local river features salmon and some sea trout angling. Less than 100 yards behind Mal Dua House is a small lake where brown trout can be fished. Clifden offers many activities. The Owenglin River provides great opportunities for fresh water fishing, whether you are a beginner or more experienced.
