1912 Its April first when Willem Beaumont, grandfather of the current owner, takes over corner cafe Swelsen and expands it to a hotel - cafe restaurant with approximately 12 rooms. Adding a fourth floor and the acquisition of an aligning building in the 1920s and 30s severally enlarged the hotel. 1947 In 1940 hotel Beaumont counted 25 rooms. After World War 2 (at the end of 1944 the hotel was headquarters to the 9th American battalion) recoveries were made and Willems son, Jean Beaumont took over the family business on April first 1947; once again adding youth and dynamic. Willem from that point on establishes the Catholic Higher Hotel School at the Boschstraat, Maastricht. Meanwhile, Jean Beaumont has added another 2 buildings to the hotel and realized separate rooms for receptions, dinners and all sorts of meetings. 1978 On April first 1978 its Jeans son, Harrie Beaumont (current owner) turn to take over. Jean Beaumont keeps working with his son behind the scenes for a number of years. From that point on modernizations and renovations follow each other in a rapid order: more buildings a re acquired, a parking garage is built, all rooms are redone and equipped with a telephone, radio and color T.V. With its 90 rooms the hotel builds up a set clientele of business travelers, national and international leisure tourists. 1994 In the winter months of 1994/ 95 and 1995/ 96 divided in 2 phases, the hotels interior was completely torn apart and remodeled. A gigantic operation, as not only the rooms but also the bathrooms, stairways and hallways were redone. The renovations were completed by March first of 1996 leaving the hotel with 77 brand new occupational rooms. A number of the 90 rooms were sacrificed in order to ensure a high level of quality. 1997 The wilhelminasingel 60 building was acquired in December 1997. After serious renovations the building was put into use on February first 1999 expanding the hotel with another 38 luxurious rooms, 2 fully equipped suites and two high-quality meeting facilities. From this point on the hotel is situated on both sides of the street. 2002 In 2002, once again plans were developed to further expansion of the hotel and a complete renovation of the ground floor. 2003 was the year where the building on Wyckerbrugstraat 8 and the production room of former ice cream salon Venetia were added to hotel Beaumont. Harrie Beaumont decided it was time for some serious changes and in close collaboration with world famous British architect, David Chipperfield came up with an innovating concept: Modern yet timeless, spacious but not cold. Putting the Beaumont in the proverbial new jacket meant turning the hotel around 180 degrees and yet preserving its typical characteristics that are part of this beautiful family- run organization. This was the challenge presented to the hotel, but the results need no words. In fact, the results were satisfying in such manner that it led to a complete metamorphoses of the entire hotel, instead of the original plans that just involved the ground floor facilities. David Chipperfield: Architecture is especially great in detail. At the Beaumont hotel we took responsibility for continuousness down to the last detail, connecting with the existing, leaving out the unnecessary and adding were needed, I call it disciplined freedom. What is left is essence, the essence of hospitality. 2005 The hotel Beaumont won the coveted Dutch Hotel Award: for best and most innovating management team, a price that puts a smile of pride on all of our faces! 2008 There are concrete plans to create a futuristic facility for creative brainstorming: once again a unique project.
