About The Great George - History. The Pavilion was erected in 1846 by James H. Downe to be sold as a combined store and dwelling. It was purchased by merchant Henry Haszard who operated the London House from this location for the next ten years. He sold everything from parasols, corsets, and boas to tea caddies, nails, and groceries. In 1857 Mr. Haszard moved his store to Queen Street and remodeled this property into the luxurious Pavilion Hotel. In 1864 the Pavilion had the distinction of hosting some of the delegates of the Charlottetown Conference. Over the years it has been named the City Hotel, the Davies Hotel and since 1930, the Regent Hotel.
