The Lovett Family have been farming the land for generations. The old stone farm cottage still exists. Cattle mainly Hereford Charolais, sheep namely Suffolk Scotch are reared on the farm. The sheep can be found on the low land in spring during the lambing season and are returned to the mountain in early Summer. There is always lots to be done on the farm with the vegetables being sown in spring, silage cutting in summer and feeding the animals during the winter months. Many of our guests take a stroll before or after breakfast to the farm, enjoying the panoramic views on the way. The more adventurous take a picnic to the top of the mountain and walk along the sheep tracks. The River Sheen flows through the farm and a fishing licence may be purchased in the local town of Kenmare. Childr...

When we acquired the property in the early nineties, it was run down and dilapidated so we began a refurbishment project. We did however, retain the old timber and flagstone floors as they contribute to the traditional style of the bar. We also removed the outside plasterwork to reveal the craft of the 18th century stonemason who constructed the original building from native stone. It was this meticulous attention to period detail that led to O'Donnabhain's becoming a Listed Building in 2001. The addition of long-forgotten pictures throughout the premises adds to the old-world feel. On opening in 1995, O'Donnobhain's bar became an instant favorite with both locals and visitors alike.
