Woodlands is an ideal place to stay when exploring North Devon and beyond. The Victorians christened the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth ‘The little Switzerland of England’ because of the romantic scenery. In more recent times the villages have become known as the place where ‘Exmoor meets the sea’. The dramatic countryside combines deep wooded river valleys, wild moorland and a magnificent coastline of hog-backed cliffs. Exmoor is home to a wealth of wildlife including red-deer, ponies, buzzards, trout and salmon. There are even wild goats in the Valley of the Rocks. As well as walking and sightseeing on Exmoor you can go horse riding, mountain biking, fishing, sailing and bird watching. Lorna Doone country is close to Lynton and slightly further afield there are historic houses, pi...
